It’s been about 10 days since I’ve been without a washing machine. Doing a few loads of laundry at a nearby laundromat hasn’t been awful. It doesn’t take long either. The heavy duty machines are fast. I bring the damp, clean clothes home to my dryer or clothesline.
That doesn’t mean I want to do it forever.
I ordered the new washer right after the old one broke and found the repair estimate too high. Buying a new one became my preferred choice. Plus I just wanted something different.
The interminable wait for delivery sucks.
Today is the delivery day! I was assigned a three-hour window. That’s no problem because I’m at home today. I moved both cars into the street. Our jackets got moved away from the top of the stairway down to the basement. I have made sure the path from truck to space next to the dryer is as clear as possible -- so there’s nothing else to delay the installation of my new washing machine.
This afternoon I’ve set aside time to read the manual cover-to-cover. I don’t want to risk not learning about some setting or feature that I will find useful.
#I actually don't have a lot of laundry to catch up on#But I can't wait to start!#I always read owner manuals completely#My wife on the other hand does not#Just press start seems to be her approach to appliances

The simultaneous rejection and embrace of womanhood
The idea for this theme derived from my set of photos with my mom as the main subject: high school-senior-mom, wedding-day-mom, and after-I-was-born-mom. It demonstrates her growth into womanhood wonderfully, and as a girl who’s stepping into her 20s, I’m on the path of discovering what womanhood means to me too.

WHEN I SAY THAT WE ARE ALL TEEN GIRLS
by Olivia Gatwood, 2019
what I mean is that when my grandmother
called to ask why I didn’t respond to her letter,
all I heard was, Why didn’t you
text me back? Why don’t you love me?
And how can I talk about my grandmother
without also mentioning that if everyone
is a teen girl, then so are the birds, their soaring
cliques, their squawking throats,
and the sea, of course, the sea,
its moody push and pull, the way we drill
into it, fill it with our trash, take and take
and take from it and still it holds us
each time we walk into it.
What is more teen girl than not being
loved but wanting it so badly
that you accept the smallest crumbs and call
yourself full; what is more teen girl than
my father’s favorite wrench, its eternal loyalty
and willingness to loosen the most stubborn of bolts;
what is more teen girl than my mother’s chewed
nail beds, than the whine of the floorboards in her
house?
What is more teen girl than my dog, Jack,
whose bark is shrill and unnecessary,
who has never once stopped a burglar
or heeled on command but sometimes
when I laugh, his tail wags
so hard it thumps against the wall, sometimes
it sounds like a heartbeat, sometimes I yell at him
for talking too much, for his messy room,
sometimes I put him in pink, striped polos
and I think he feels pretty,
I think he likes to feel pretty,
I think Jack is a teen girl.
and the mountains, oh, the mountains,
what teen girls they are, those colossal show-offs,
and the moon, glittering and distant
and dictating all of our emotions.
My lover’s tender but heavy breath while she sleeps
is a teen girl, how it holds me and keeps
me awake all at once, how I sometimes wish
to silence it, until she turns her body and
the room goes quiet and suddenly I want it back.
Imagine the teen girls gone from our world,
and how quickly we would beg for their return,
how grateful would we be then for their loud
enthusiasm
and ability to make a crop top out of anything.
Even the men who laugh their condescending laughs
when a teen girl faints at the sight of her
favorite pop star, even those men are teen girls,
the way they want so badly to be so big
and important and worshipped by someone.
Pluto, the teen girl, and her rejection
from the popular universe,
and my father, a teen girl, who insists he doesn’t
believe in horoscopes but wants me to tell
him about the best traits of a Scorpio,
I tell him, We are all just teen girls,
and my father, having raised me, recounts the time he
found the box of love notes and condom wrappers I
hid in my closet, all of the bloody sheets, the missing
socks,
the radio blaring over my pitchy sobs,
the time I was certain I would die of heartbreak
and in a moment was in love with a small, new boy,
and of course there are the teen girls,
the real teen girls, huddled on the subway
after school, limbs draped over each other’s shoulders
bones knocking, an awkward wind chime
and all of the commuters, who plug in their
headphones
to mute the giggle, silence the gaggle and squeak,
not knowing where they learned to do this,
to roll their eyes and turn up the music,
not knowing where they learned this palpable rage,
not knowing the teen girls are our most distinguished
professors, who teach us to bury the burst
until we close our bedroom doors,
and then cry with blood in the neck,
foot through the door, face in the pillow,
the teen girls who teach us to scream.

As a first-time mom, Kyleigh was determined to raise cameron jr and the twins in an eco-friendly way.She had always been passionate about the environment and wanted to do my part to reduce her family's carbon footprint. But, let's be real, raising three young children is no easy feat, especially when you're trying to be eco-friendly.
One of the first things kyleigh did was to switch to cloth diapers.she had heard that disposable diapers were a major contributor to landfill waste, so she decided to give cloth diapers a try. At first, it was a bit of a challenge, but once she got the hang of it, it became second nature. she would wash the diapers in a special eco-friendly detergent, in the washbin beside the house and hang them up to dry on a clothesline in our backyard.Next, kyleigh turned her attention to her home's energy usage. she installed roof turbines on our roof and made sure to use candles instead of lights and turn off electronics when they weren't in use. Kyleigh also made the switch to energy-efficient appliances.
But, the real challenge came when it came to feeding her little ones. kyleigh wanted to feed them a healthy, balanced diet, but also wanted to do it in an eco-friendly way. She started by growing fruits and vegetables in the backyard, also it was a great way to spend time with her children.

Last Monday of the Week 2023-06-12
Almost back to normal
Listening: Beloved and wildly barely known South African psychedelic rock group Acid Magus has a new album out. Or, well, half of an album out, the other half is showing up in August. Dead Weight ft. Johni Holiday, he's from Ruff Majik, a slightly more well known fantasy-themed-ish punk rock band. Love 'em both.
Reading: Not a lot. Dug my ereader out from wherever it got to during the move so hopefully I'll have that to do when I'm kicking it on the couch. At the moment I mostly end up spiralling into nitpicking PC case specifications and costs because I'm trying to figure that out.
Watching: A lot of preparation this week it seems. I quickly whipped up a media server with my raspberry pi so that I can watch things on my laptop without having to dangle a dubious old external drive off it. I found the entirety of The Fast and the Furious on that thing so I'm going to make a project of watching that and doing a book report, or at least that's the plan. I watched a few fragments from Clerks to kick the tyres and that's about it.
Playing: I only have a wimpy laptop, so, visual novels. I replayed Psycholonials for the first time since playing it as it came out. The rapid descent of the Jubilites is a lot more dramatic when you don't have to wait weeks between chapters! Much higher impact this way.
I think that if you wanted to give someone like. A tasting platter of the style of Hussie without going into any detail of Homestuck this might be a good option. It's about a totally different set of ideas but it's done the same way and particularly uses a very similar set of character writing techniques. I mean come on Zhen/Abby is pure redrom flipping between flushed and pale.
Making: Trying and failing to restring the fucked up broken clothesline on my balcony in a way that doesn't immediately lose tension. I need to use some smarter tensioning knots and also probably try and work around the busted hooks it has. Future me problems.
Went out to Šárka park to get the lay of the land and do some photography, only brought my general purpose lens. It looks like the rigors of air travel may have killed it, it is... god like 16 years old or something. It's served its time, the focus feels off. Anyway, got some nice scenery down.
Tools and Equipment: minidlna is now called ReadyMedia but it does the same thing. You install it on a linux box and edit a little file and start a service and it spawns a compact but fully functional DLNA media server that most other devices will recognize and just work with. I've got that running on the Pi at the moment and if I wanted to I could watch stuff on my phone with it.

heartstitch
installation reminiscent of the clothesline and domestic space using instax scans inkjet printed on silk habotai, safety pins, thread, 2022
heartstitch serves as a tender whirlwind of intimacy and absence, a bittersweet ode to a meteoric love affair, cosmic connection, meeting of mirrored souls. The series pulls from a collection of instax wide photographs I shot while living and working in Denmark during the summer months of 2022. The images are printed on distressed edge cuts of silk habotai, the lustrous fabric mimicking the soft delicacy of a lover’s skin, fragility of relationships, fleeting nature of infatuation, and the painful yet inevitable change that comes with the passage of time. Embroidered line work, white thread, and safety pins allude to abrasion and healing as the tattered texture of paper and blurred handwriting in the scanned journal entry parallel lacerated skin and expressions of longing and nostalgia. While heartstitch primarily seeks to cleanse and pay homage to a kind of psychic love wound, it also commemorates the emotional, bodily, and spiritual liberation and empowerment I experienced through traveling alone as a young woman with a history of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

DIY Home Wall Decor for a Custom Look
When it comes to making your house feel like a home, nothing beats modern home decor. It's not just about making your space look pretty; it's about creating an environment that reflects your personality and style. Today, we’re diving into DIY home wall decor ideas that give your space a custom look without breaking the bank. Whether you're into wall hanging decor, home decor lights, or wall art decor, there’s something here for everyone. Let’s explore how you can transform your walls into masterpieces with simple, budget-friendly ideas.
Why DIY Wall Decor?
DIY wall decor is a fantastic way to add a personal touch to your home. Store-bought items are great, but making your decor adds a layer of uniqueness. Plus, it’s often cheaper and more fun! By creating your own pieces, you can:
Experiment with different styles, from modern home decor to rustic charm.
Tailor pieces to fit your specific space.
Have the satisfaction of knowing you made something with your own hands.
Let’s dive into some exciting projects that will upgrade your walls in no time.
1. Gallery Wall with a Twist
Gallery walls are a popular trend in modern home decor, but why not take it up a notch? Instead of just hanging photos or artwork, mix and match textures and materials. Combine framed family photos with:
Wall hanging decor like macrame or woven pieces.
Small mirrors to add dimension and light.
DIY-painted canvases for a splash of color.
Pro Tip: Use removable adhesive strips to avoid damaging your walls, making it easy to switch up the look when you’re ready for a change.
2. Illuminating with Home Decor Lights
Lighting is an underrated aspect of wall decor. Home decor lights can instantly elevate the mood of a room. Consider these ideas:
String fairy lights around a large piece of wall art for a magical glow.
Install LED strip lights under shelves or along wall edges to create a modern vibe.
Use vintage sconces or industrial-style lamps as statement pieces.
Don’t underestimate the power of light to transform your space. It’s an essential element of modern home decor that can make your walls stand out.
3. DIY Wall Art Decor
Creating your own wall art decor doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
Abstract Paintings: Use acrylic paints and let your imagination run wild. Abstract art fits perfectly into a modern aesthetic.
Framed Fabrics: Find beautiful fabrics or old scarves and frame them for an artistic touch.
Nature-Inspired Pieces: Press flowers or leaves and arrange them in shadow boxes.
These simple projects can add a lot of character to your walls without costing much.
4. Statement Wall Hanging Decor
If you want to make a big impact, consider creating a statement piece of wall hanging decor. Some ideas include:
Macrame Wall Hangings: Learn a few basic knots and create your own design. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is.
Tapestry Displays: Buy an affordable tapestry or make your own using fabric paints.
Wooden Plaques: Stain or paint wooden boards and arrange them into a unique pattern.
These types of decor are not only trendy but also customizable to your style and color scheme.
5. Functional Yet Stylish Shelving
Shelves aren’t just for storage; they’re an integral part of modern home decor. Create floating shelves using wood and brackets, then decorate them with:
Small plants for a touch of greenery.
Decorative books with colorful spines.
Candles or home decor lights for ambiance.
Mix practicality with beauty, and you’ll have a functional wall that’s also a focal point.
Incorporating E-Commerce Finds
Sometimes, you need a little help to bring your DIY dreams to life. Online platforms like DBeautify.com and e-commerce stores like MyStore are excellent resources for materials and inspiration. From paint supplies to pre-made wall hanging decor, they’ve got you covered.
6. Creative Photo Displays
Move beyond traditional frames with these ideas:
Use a clothesline and clips to hang your favorite photos in a casual, artistic way.
Arrange Polaroids in a heart shape for a unique photo wall.
Create a photo collage using washi tape to add pops of color.
These options allow you to showcase memories in a way that’s fresh and personal.
7. Mirror Magic
Mirrors are a secret weapon in modern home decor. They reflect light, making your space feel larger and brighter. Opt for:
A large statement mirror with a decorative frame.
A cluster of small mirrors arranged like wall art decor.
DIY mirrors with painted edges or mosaic tiles.
Not only are mirrors functional, but they also add a touch of elegance to any room.
8. Chalkboard or Whiteboard Walls
If you’re looking for a fun and interactive element, why not turn a section of your wall into a chalkboard or whiteboard? Use chalkboard paint or adhesive whiteboard sheets. These are great for:
Family notes and reminders.
Doodling or brainstorming.
Weekly meal plans or to-do lists.
It’s practical, playful, and a unique take on modern home decor.
9. Seasonal Swaps
One of the joys of DIY wall decor is how easy it is to update. Make seasonal swaps with minimal effort:
In fall, hang wreaths or warm-toned wall art decor.
For the holidays, use string lights and festive garlands.
In summer, go for tropical prints and vibrant colors.
Keeping your decor fresh ensures your home always feels welcoming.
Final Thoughts
Transforming your walls doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. With these DIY ideas, you can achieve a modern home decor look that’s uniquely yours. Whether you’re crafting wall hanging decor, playing with home decor lights, or designing your own wall art decor, the possibilities are endless. So roll up your sleeves, get creative, and give your walls the attention they deserve.

Efficient Clothes Drying Solutions in Mangalore, Mysore, and Bangalore
Living in South India, particularly in cities like Mangalore, Mysore, and Bangalore, often means dealing with the challenges posed by varying weather conditions when it comes to drying clothes. The tropical climate, characterized by frequent rains, high humidity, and fluctuating temperatures, can make traditional clothes drying methods inefficient. Thankfully, modern clothes drying solutions are available to make the process quicker, cleaner, and more efficient. From ceiling cloth dryers to compact, portable drying units, residents of these cities now have several innovative options to dry clothes indoors and outdoors.
Clothes Drying Solutions in Mangalore
Mangalore, with its heavy monsoons and high humidity, presents unique challenges for drying clothes. The rainy season in particular can disrupt the natural drying process. For many residents, Clothes Drying Solutions in Mangalore lies in using advanced clothes drying systems that are quick, efficient, and space-saving. Popular options include retractable clotheslines and ceiling-mounted dryers that take up minimal space. These systems can be installed indoors, allowing for clothes to dry even when it's raining outside. Ceiling-mounted clothes dryers are especially popular because they use vertical space efficiently and can be operated easily with a pulley system or automatic controls.
Additionally, airers and drying racks, which can be folded away when not in use, are common in many Mangalore households. They can be placed near windows or in balconies, benefiting from natural airflow to aid drying during the drier months. Electric drying machines and dehumidifiers are also gaining popularity for their convenience, though they tend to be more expensive compared to traditional methods.
Ceiling Cloth Dryers in Mysore
Mysore, known for its moderate climate, has varying humidity levels throughout the year. During the rainy season, however, clothes drying can still be a hassle. This is where ceiling cloth dryers become a practical solution. These dryers are installed on the ceiling, allowing users to hang clothes above head height, which optimizes space and keeps clothes out of the way. With manual or motorized mechanisms, these dryers can be raised or lowered with ease, offering flexibility in space usage.
The key advantage of Ceiling Cloth Dryer in Mysore is their ability to keep clothes in a ventilated area while protecting them from dust, birds, and insects. These systems work well in both traditional homes and modern apartments. Furthermore, the use of ceiling dryers reduces the likelihood of clothes getting moldy or musty due to stagnant air, a common problem in areas with high humidity.
Clothes Drying in Bangalore
Bangalore, known for its pleasant weather for most of the year, faces challenges during the monsoon season when humidity levels rise significantly. Although many residents can rely on the sun for most of the year, during the rainy months, they turn to indoor drying solutions. Electric clothes dryers, which can dry clothes quickly without the need for sunlight, are increasingly popular in Bangalore households. Clothes Drying in Bangalore offer the convenience of drying clothes in a matter of hours, saving time and energy.
Another common solution is the installation of retractable clotheslines, which can be extended to accommodate more clothes when needed and retracted when not in use. Many Bangalore residents opt for combination systems that feature both ceiling-mounted racks and a drying area on their balconies, combining the best of both worlds—natural air circulation and indoor drying space.
In conclusion, whether you're living in Mangalore, Mysore, or Bangalore, effective clothes drying solutions are essential for maintaining convenience and hygiene. From ceiling dryers and retractable lines to electric dryers, these modern innovations offer efficiency, save space, and ensure that clothes dry properly, even in humid or rainy conditions. By choosing the right system based on local weather patterns, residents can enjoy hassle-free clothes drying all year round.

Sam Gillan
Watercolour, 4 1969
Watercolor, and aluminum powder on fiberglass paper 23 3/4 x 18 1/8" (60.3 x 45.9 cm)
Blurring the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation, Sam Gilliam wrestles with the physicality of the art object and its relationship to the viewer.
he moved to Washington, DC, during the formation of Color Field painting, which emphasized the use of flat planes of color and novel paint application techniques.
Gilliam soon experimented with color, form, and technique, pouring pigments and folding canvases while still wet.
remove his canvases from their stretchers entirely, and, inspired by laundry on clotheslines, hang them from the ceiling or walls.
Gilliam transformed painting into something sculptural and three-dimensional, disrupting traditional modes of presentation and viewing.
He also incorporated metal forms, alternative materials like yarn and glitter, varied applications of paint, and quilt-inspired patterning into his practice.
“the expressive act of making a mark and hanging it in space is always political. My work is as political as it is formal.”
Sam Gilliam, Green April, 1969,
acrylic on canvas, 98 x 271 x 3 7/8 inches (248.9 x 688.3 x 9.8 cm), Collection of Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel, Switzerland, Courtesy of David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles, photography by Lee Thompson.
his lyrical abstractions took on an increasing variety of forms, moods, and materials.
